Gathering of people with a disability and their carers in the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas for a fun morning of tenpin bowling at Highlands Tenpin. Special Olympics will be there on the day to help launch our disability tenpin bowling program for 2012.

Special Olympics Victoria, Tenpin Bowling Australia and OZ Ten PIN have joined together to offer the opportunity for people with disability to bowl away for international day. Come along and have some fun. People should RSVP by 28th November 2011.

Tenpin Bowling is ideal sporting or leisure activity for school leavers » Go Bowling Cairns.

Minister for Disability Services Curtis Pitt stated that  “Leaving Hon. Curtis Pitt MP and Marcia Tudor from Go Bowling Cairnsschool is a milestone in the life of all young people, and in the lives of their parents and families, and while helping school leavers plan their future is an important issue for all families, it is especially so for those with a son or daughter with a disability.”

Special Olympics regional swimming meet at Narooma

Special Olympics regional swimming meet at Narooma – Local News – Sport – General – Narooma News:

Special Olympics provides year round sports training and competition for children and adults with an intellectual disability. South Coast has programs for swimming, basketball, soccer, cricket and tenpin bowling, all run by volunteers.

Anyone wishing to participate or volunteer can ring John Gillett, Chairperson of South Coast Special Olympics, on ph 4474 4006.

Special Olympic sporting events are booming in the region, with tenpin bowling proving particularly popular.

Lower South Island Special Olympics regional sports co-ordinator Jan Aitken said a tenpin bowling event in Oamaru last week attracted about 60 athletes from eight secondary schools.

Bowling is able to fill the needs of many youngsters with special abilities because the rules are not complex and
 the basic skills are quickly learned.
