Belmonte is World Cup Champion

The stepladder final of the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Johannesburg was a thrilling, noisy climax to this year’s tournament.

After emerging from qualifying and quarter final rounds in which four of the top eight male bowlers posted perfect games, Ukraine’s Mykhalo Kalika faced in-form Aussie, Jason Belmonte in the first match of the best-of-three game semi-final.

How to Take Kids Bowling on a Budgetthumbnail

Kids love to throw just about anything at anything. Bowling lets them do that in a controlled setting, and they get to keep score. Shoe rental, food, drinks and the price of each game can be expensive. A parent or caregiver needs a bowling budget to be able to make bowling an affordable outing.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for and clip coupons for weekly discounted specials. Several of the bowling establishments send out coupons through the mail in bulk mailings. Discounts such as free shoe rental, buy one game get another free, and discounted refreshments may be offered. Often times the coupons will have quick expiration so you will need to keep up with the dates.

    • 2

Sign up online to be on area bowling alleys’ email lists. Being on the lists allows the business to send you information about specials and upcoming events. These events usually include discounted prices that will allow you to stay in your budget.

CTFLogo2_small.jpgThe Canadian Tenpin Federation team selection committee has made their final decisions on the additional team members for 2012 Team Canada.

With the added importance of the 2012 PABCON Championships as a qualifier for the 2013 World Championships, the importance on team performance this year was universally understood. The committee had a challenging task to balance development and leadership on the team.

The six men’s team members who earned their team spots at the 2011 Canadian National Championships held in the Montreal area in May of 2011 resulted in three veteran competitors and three new comers. With this in mind, the committee chose two experienced competitors for the 2012 Men’s team.

200910PBAGeorgeLambertIV.jpg2010BWCMichaelSchmidt.jpgGeorg Lambert IV (pictured left) formerly of Hamilton, Ontario and now living in Texas, and Michael Schmidt (right), Winnipeg, Manitoba were selected for the men’s team.

Lambert IV has been a member of the Youth or Adult Team Canada since 2000. He has earned numerous medals for Canada and was the 2000 and 2009 Male Bowler of the Year. Lambert IV has also bowled on the Professional Bowlers tour.

Schmidt is one of only two multiple winners of the Bowling World Cup. He claimed the 2005 and 2010 crowns and will defend his title in Johannesburg, South Africa in late November and December.

2008BWCJenniferPark.jpgJennifer Park (left), Nanaimo, British Columbia and Kim Green, Duncan, BC were selected for the women.

Park is a veteran member of Team Canada and recently won a silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. Park will also bowl for Canada at the Bowling World Cup in Johannesburg. Green has had a consistent record in her performance at the 2010 and 2011 Canadian National Championships, finishing seventh and 10th.
